Artsvaber Monastery

Among the countless treasures of Van, the Artsvaber Monastery stands out. The main church is the Holy Mother of God. This famous early medieval monastery is near the city of Arjesh. Although it has been significantly ravaged by locals and treasure thieves, it has not yet been completely destroyed. Other buildings and khachkars of the monastery have not survived to this day. It has a rather complex and interesting architecture, it is of the Hripsime type. It is also notable for the interesting example of using stone as a shrine with an Urartian inscription. Currently, it is in the center of a Kurdish-populated village, in a deteriorating condition day by day. Even in its semi-ruined state, the monastery is extremely impressive, and every fragment is able to convey the glorious past.
